Just finished re-reading this one. Funny how my mind works. I couldn't even remember who the villain was. I forget what I've read so quickly.

This was one villain that I really didn't suspect. But I really got a chuckle out of Murie's superstitions. I really found the onions to be funny! I may never look at them the same way again.

Took me by surprise even the second time around! And as for the superstitions, I've known people like that even in this modern age.

I cannot read The Brat without literally laughing until tears roll, even though I've read it several times and know who the villain is now. Yes, it was one of Lynsay's best surprising twists. The entire way Murie thinks and what she accomplished was also one of her best twists. Murie may be superstitious, but in many ways, she has much more common sense than most of the others are aware.
