I've noticed that there are several of us Immortals who are trying to loose weight, so I thought I would start this support forum.

I've always had a hard time loosing weight. I was very skinny as a young child, but when I hit my early teens I started gaining weight fast. I've tried different types of diets, but nothing seemed to help. I managed to get down to 185, but then never was able to get past that mark, and would get discouraged and put the weight back on. And when I got pregnant with my Daughter, I gained 30 lbs in the First trimester, and by the end of the pregnancy I had put on almost 50lbs, hitting the 265 mark. I Had just finally started loosing that weight when I got pregnant with my Son. By the end of the pregnancy I was almost 300lbs. I'm back down to 250 now, but it's been a struggle, because we moved across country last year, and we've been busy getting settled in here. Now that Spring has (Almost) come, I am hoping to be able to work out in the garden and start riding my Bike again. If I grow my own Veggies, I'll eat more salads, and Hubby and I have been thinking of touring the state on our Bikes in a year or two ( can't wait too long or the kids will be in school).

I think this is a fabulous group to start. I use to be a relatively normal wight 160 -170 lbs for my height of 5'11" but gained apile with the birth of each child. Even though I exercise 3-4 times a week it still isn't enough. I'm running about 240 now and i would like to loose 50 lbs to feel comfy. Maybe with a team approach we can all loose a few of those unwanted pounds or at least lead a health lifestyle. :)

EEK!! Bathing suit!! I hate those things. I prefered the ones they had at the turn of the 19th century covered from neck to heels. My varicose viens are nothing to look at.

You can try Modestwear.com. They make Bathing suits for families that enjoy the water, but preffer (For religous or vanity reasons) not to bare all.

I'm thinking some of the things we can do as a group are share healthy recipes, talk about what kinds of exercise we're doing, and generally just encourage each other. And if we're fighting the Temptations of Chocolate, Or fried, greasy food, or what ever our weaknesses are, we can come here and talk it out.

I have to admit, I am a Chocoholic. Hello, my name is Cathy Y, and I am a Chocoholic. It's been about 2 hours since the last time I had a piece of chocolate, but does it count if it was Sugar Free?

I was Diagnosed 7 years ago with Diabeties, which wasn't surprising, since most of my Family is also Diabetic. My Brother is a type 1 Diabetic, but most of us are type 2. I try to avoid alot of the foods that are high in sugar and Carbs, but that mostly leaves foods that are higher in fat, unless I want to become a Veggitarian, which is not happening. I'm a Meat eater. I need meat. I like chicken and Fish, but I really preffer red meat. My sister can't eat red meat very often. She has a condition that makes it hard for her to digest it, so she eats alot of chicken and Turkey, which is how she stays so skinny. She also avoids pasta most of the time.

Tonight for dnner we had Bacon and eggs, but I had a salad and cheese for Lunch, so atleast I tried to be good today. Tommorow, if we don't have to go in to town, I'll probably have a Spinach salad with Blue Cheese crumbles and slivered almonds. If we go in to town, I don't know what I'll have for lunch, because hubby usually only wants fast food, and that is mostly fatty and greasy fare. If we go to Arby's, I'll get the French Dip, which isn't too bad. I usually don't get fries, so it's not too many calories. For Dinner I am thinking of having Hamburger gravey with Mashed poatatoes...I know, not that Healthy, but it's something I've been hungry for for weeks.

Anyone have a good cold soup recipe?

Jill...good for you....the weather is perfect to start a little walking. I think everyone feels the need to acheive a healthier lifestyle so no matter what weight the scale says you are as long as eating good nutritious meals and exercising a little it will work out. We are consuming more food then we ever have in our life as a society...the size of our plate (not the food on it) has grown to accomadate the amount of food we eat. One of the things I have done is I bought myself a smaller plate (usually the size of the picnic plates or a standard paper plate) and I use that to eat from. These are some of the things that I tell my kids (since I teach health). All you need at each meal is a fist size amount of food...so next time you sit at the table and bring your food over to eat hold your fist over your plate. Eat what you like first that way you're more tempted to leave the stuff you don't like instead of eating the stuff you don't like first and then eating the stuff you like as a treat. Eat like a wine taster....small bites....move it in your move so you taste all of it...chew well....then swallow then sip of water to cleanse your palate before your next bite. Eat alot of fruit and veggies. I find that adolescent or pre-teens that I teach are not eating many fruits and veggies. i actually go to the store and buy fresh fruit or veggies every other day and my kids during the week do not get any salty or sweet snacks they either get fruit , veggie or starve. Except school lunches I pack a sandwich or wrap with meat and cheese if they are not getting any other dairy, a peice of fruit, a fun snack (cookies, thinsation choc. bar), a healthy snack (yogurt, granola bars, goldfish crackers, raisins) and two juice boxes.
I'm sorry i'm becoming long winded but our News Year Resolution was to become more healthy and remember a gradual weight loss of one to two pounds a week is recommended. The Biggest Loser weight loss is not normal or recommended. So if you start today you could be halfway to your goal weight in 6 months. BTW I've loss 10 pounds since News Years. :)

Walking is good, just remember to keep at a steady pace, and drink plenty of water. If you have access to a swimming pool, swimming is good, and if you aren't very good at swimming, stick to the shallow end and do some water aerobics. Jogging in place underwater is good. Keep it up for 15 minutes, atleast, or just hold on to the side and kick your legs.

Is anyone out there using diet pills? I Don't usually recommend them, but the Alli program actually does work, you just have to be faithfull to it. It is a Little expensive, but still cheaper than joining Jenny Craig or weight watchers, and doctors often will recommend it to patients who want to loose weight steadily. I will warn you that the first couple of days on alli may be awkward, as it can cause some natural bodily functions to be more pronounced, but after a day or three, that goes away. I'm going to restart the program this month. I had to stop when I got pregnant with my son, and just hadn't had a chance to get back on the program.

Doesn't look like we are going in to town today, so I'll have a spinach salad for lunch today. Still not sure about dinner. As for breakfast, it's a toss up between Special K cereal, and a glucerna shake.
