Argeneau/Rouge Hunter Book Cover Art

Talk about the stories that got the Argeneaus where they are today.

Personally I prefer covers with a face like the ones for TIH, BTB and TRV. For some reason, a picture of a buff male torso just doesn't do a thing for me.

I kind of deplore the lack of creativity in cover designs in general. It seems, in the romance genre, there are only three kinds of covers: a male model, female model, or the two of them getting real friendly like. I've noticed that, in a lot of genres, the cover designs have become less and less creative with the passage of time. In the science fiction and fantasy genres, you can't do better than a painting by Darrell K. Sweet, cover artist extraordinaire, I've bought books because of his cover art. I think publishers sometimes underestimate the value of a great cover.

I guess the important thing is not what's on the cover but what's inside it.

Yup! Just like the old saying that you can't judge a book by its cover!

Wren I have to agree with you on this one. Granted I love Vic's abs. But rather have a face. Even if it is not exactly how I image it :/

The model's pony tail is supposed to be down the back of his neck. They tried to add it after when I complained you couldn't see the ponytail, but it didn't look right.

As for cutting off the head, you'll have to blame me. I have a tendency to HATE the models they pick for the characters. They never look like them. A Bite To Remember? I was horrified by the girl. That WASN'T Jackie. So they darkened the pic and put my name over her face. Vampires are Forever? Does that cute little blonde look like she's portuguese with dark, curly hair? And that ISN'T Thomas. I could go on, but you get the point. The only time I haven't shrunk from the covers was when they sent me pics of models to choose from, then I can pick the one who looks most like the characters. And they have been doing that the last couple books. In fact, they did that with this cover and I did pick a model who looked like Christian, but I forget what happened. He wasn't available or something. So they got someone else and cut off his head. Frankly, I'd rather have that than have someone who looks nothing like the character. It's kind of like having the heads of the members of my family cut out and stranger's faces inserted. Just looks wrong to me. So, I'm afraid you have to blame me.

Now, Lynsay, I thought you liked the "Thomas" model...I remember we liked the cover when it was released & thought he looked like he stepped right off the pages of the book! We considered it the best Argeneau cover-art at the time, but they just didn't get Inez right! Hon, you know how strong my memory is about these things, and while he may not be the perfect "Thomas" he was the closest ever in cover models! ;) For me, it doesn't matter much about the model, because I still "see & hear" the character the way I do when I read the book! Having their heads cut off makes me think of immortal decapitation, though...I don't know why, but I know that's why I prefer a face...any face! 8-)

Actually, seeing the headless models on the cover reminds me of my great aunt. No matter how hard she tried, every time she took a photo of some one, she lopped off their heads! It was the running family joke about not letting her take your photo!

Vampires Are Forever cover

What a great cover! Thomas looks just like I pictured him, and even bare-chested with a bat tattoo, the cover looks great with the hero and heroine together.

Swoooon....I'll walk around with this cover anywhere!

Re: Vampires Are Forever cover

I like it too!! They really captured Thomas. If I didn't know better I'd guess he stepped off the pages and posed for it. (grin)
